Rice can be as much fun to play in as sand, but it is easier to vacuum up. Add some interest to your sensory play, by coloring the rice. Try orange and black rice in October, or pink and white rice for Valentine’s Day. Coloring the rice is very easy.

Playing in the sand is as old as childhood itself. It is the most ancient of toys, yet still one of the most important. Through sand play, children develop physically, socially and emotionally. Every backyard and playground should have a sandbox, if nothing else.
