Big Drums Make Interesting Sounds

This week you and your child will focus on sounds. You’ll want to collect pairs of little film canisters – the plastic container with a lid that holds 35mm film. These may be harder to find now, as so many people own digital cameras. If you can find any other kind of small container that is opaque, with a tight lid, that will work as well. You will be putting different items in the containers, making matching pairs. Some rice in two, a small rubber erasure in two, a penny in two, etc. Then the child will match up the containers by shaking them and listening to the sounds they make.

Other suggestions this week include making rhythm band instruments, a wind chimes, pounding nails into wood with a small hammer, and finally, a field trip to the zoo where your child can listen to all the different sounds the animals make.
