Discovering Spring Blooms
You will introduce the theme with a nature walk on Monday morning. You and your child will look for pretty flowering plants. If you are able, allow your child to pick one flower of each different type. This is best done in your own yard, or a friend’s yard. Be careful if picking flowers in a public park. Some flowers are protected and carry hefty penalties for picking them!
When you get home, your child will press the flowers, and mount them into a magnetic type photo album. Help your child learn to identify ten different flowers common to your area. These might include daisies, roses, iris, daffodils, and creeping phlox. If you see trillium – take a picture, and mount that. Trillium are one of those protected plants.
Many Activities for Your Preschooler
Some of the projects include making tissue paper bouquets, decorating a flower pot, making a cast of the child’s hand print, and more. He will glue eight pumpkin seeds on a number eight, and cut heart shapes from pink construction paper. There are a few school-type worksheets included at the bottom of this page, if your child is ready for this. If not, just ignore them. There are enough activities to keep your child busy for a full week.
Enjoy!
